Red is a question that stems from  my research into events surrounding how red is read. I collect books that have the word “red” in their title. This seemingly simple condition of ‘red’ has led me to Linda Fierz-David & Nor Hall's, Dreaming in Red: The Women's Dionysian Initiation Chamber in Pompeii.

“When an archetypal image rises to the surface and the human being realizes its effect, he can probably never find out which was first, the image or the effect” (Feirz-David, p. 45).

This sentiment inspired me to pass along my copy of the book to my friend and fellow researcher and artist Majena. The potency of the frescos in the Villa of Mysteries, combined with the mythologies that surround them, have inspired us to ask many questions.

Like the actual chamber, this virtual red cube blog is located at the halfway point between our two home studios. Cubedred is a beautifully designed blog by Majena. It is a place where we can graft together images and videos artworks and diagrams; a space where we collaborate and spin ideas inspired by the artists and initiates and other visitors of the Villa of Mysteries' chamber.
